Step by Step Full Body Detox Cleanse at Home

These days, we get to hear a lot about natural detoxifiers and full body detox drinks. Many of these are very effective and indeed help with weight loss and chelating heavy metals and toxins from the body. Several celebrities have also patented special drinks and master cleanses which are supposed to flush out toxins and even aid in weight loss. Detoxification, especially a liver detox, should always be done under the guidance of a medical practitioner. Ideally, you need to get complete blood work done, both before and after, to see how the Cleanse has worked for you. Here are the steps to detoxify your body safely and completely at home:

Step 1- Eat Apples!

A few days before you decide to do the detox, eat apples. You can eat one apple or two apples per day. Go for any variety of apples; just make sure they are organic and fresh. Apples contain malic acid which helps eliminate toxins. The old adage-An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Away is full of wisdom and indeed keeps diseases at bay.

Step 2- Take Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is very beneficial to enhance your detoxification. A week or two prior to the Cleanse, you can drink organic, raw apple cider vinegar (with mother enzymes) –first thing each morning, upon waking up. Drink about one tablespoon mixed with some juice or water. The taste is strong and acrid but this powerful detox drink will make your body alkaline and eliminate toxins. Make sure you use a straw to sip the apple cider vinegar solution; else it could harm your dental enamel.

Step 3- Things to Buy

You will need 3 packets of Epsom salts or MgSO4 (each packet is about 20 grams). Use fresh distilled water to make the salt solution. You also need some sweet lime juice. If sweet limes are not available, you can use lemon juice. Keep local, raw honey handy to add to the Epsom salt solution in case it turns out too bitter for you. Also, you need to buy the best quality extra virgin olive oil; you need at least ½ cup of olive oil for each cleanse.

Step 4- Actual Detox

  • On the day you decide to do the detox, you can have a light breakfast and light lunch.
  • At 2 pm, dissolve 3 packets of Epsom salts (total 60 grams) in 4 glasses of fresh drinking water.
  • Do not eat anything after lunch-especially after 2 pm. You can drink green tea and plenty of water throughout the detox.
  • At 6.30 pm, take the first glass of Epsom salt solution. Add some honey to it if it is bitter.
  • You might experience loose watery stools. This is normal. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
  • At 8 pm, take the next glass of Epsom salts. Let the diarrhea or vomiting continue. Stay hydrated.
  • At 10 pm finish all your chores. Now mix half a cup of olive oil with ½-1 cup of sweet lime juice (or lemon juice and honey). Drink this mixture and immediately lie down on your right side. You must lie in this position for at least an hour.
  • Prepare for diarrhea or vomiting throughout the night. Stay hydrated by sipping on water.
  • At 7 am the next morning, have the third glass of Epsom salts. You can have a banana and some juice at 10 am.
  • If you are feeling worse, do not take the 4th glass. In case you feel up to it, finish the final glass of Epsom salts.
  • At 12 pm, have a light lunch. Rest.

Congratulations! You have done your first full body detox cleanse at home!

Step 5- Success Tips for Your Detox

  • How often to do the detox? As much as possible, it is recommended that you detox once a month. This is beneficial for the liver.
  • You can also continue taking apple cider vinegar daily. Discontinue if you feel sick or develop headaches or other symptoms.
  • Eat sensibly between detoxes. Avoid refined flour, sugar, red meat, etc.
  • Drink plenty of water. This rule applies to all days and not just when you detox.
  • Every night before bed, drink a tablespoon of coconut oil. It contains healthy fats and keeps your system alkaline. Coconut oil also has tons of health benefits.

Step 6- Detox the Mind!

A complete or full body detox cleanse also includes de-cluttering the mind. Keep your thoughts happy and positive. Always be grateful in each and every moment. Gratitude brings abundance and grace. Listen to knowledge discourses or read some self-help, motivational and positive books. Meditate daily. Stay mindful. Practice yoga poses. Exercise at least 3-4 times a week.

Step 7- Oil Pulling

Pull oil every day as it helps in detoxification as well. Take a tablespoon of organic coconut oil and swish it around your mouth for 10-15 minutes. Afterwards, spit it out. Do this before bedtime or first thing in the morning.

Step 8- Alternate Hot-Cold Showers

You may also take alternate hot and cold showers to aid the detox. Start with warm water and turn the knob to cool/cold and stand under it for 30-40 seconds before turning it back to warm. Repeat. This improves blood circulation and has numerous benefits for the mind and body. It also stimulates the lymph nodes to eliminate toxic waste.

As stated earlier, before you do any detox, talk to your healthcare provider. Ask yourself the reasons why you are doing this cleanse. Avoid the detox if you have any health issues or are nursing or pregnant.
